Hi! It's been a while.. but here's the next part of our trip.

Sunday August 23
Another beautiful sunny day in Los Angeles. So nice to be staying at Sophia's place instead of a hotel. Sit at the breakfast table, sip some coffee, just very relaxing.
Today we went to the Getty Center. Beautiful architecture, very nice how it's been set up. You take this cute little tram up the mountain and then there's the huge museum and a nice garden. We looked at the beautiful bronze statures and paintings. Walking around the garden, enjoying the sunshine and overlooking Santa Monica beach in the distance. Beautiful day!
After a few hours we thought it was time to move on (even though we maybe saw half of the museum..) and we drove to the Getty mansion. The house where Paul Getty himself used to live. Also very nice.
On the way back Sophia drove us along all the beaches to see them all. Stopped for a bit at Venice Beach and just drove along. So beautiful to see it all! And with sunset :-)

Monday was another beautiful sunny day. Tourist day: going to Hollywood boulevard seeing the walk of fame of course. Super hot day but still fun to walk around. Saw some promotion thingy for a big boxing match. Guess that's how it's done here in LA! Geez so many people. After a nice lunch with tater tots (yum!) we went on our way to drive through Beverly Hills. You can actually see some of the mega houses. Geez, I can only imagine what it would be like to see the inside of those mansions.. We stopped at the Beverly Hills park just to take some pictures and relax a bit. Then on our way to Rodeo Drive! That was actually more fun that I thought it would be. Very nice streets, very quiet and beautiful stores. Very nice to walk around.
Then Sophia drove us through Bel Air, unfortunately here you cannot see anything. Still nice to drive through the hills. We went to her brother's house for dinner and to pick up Sam. Wow he's gotten so big! Last time 3 years ago he was still a baby. So fun to meet her family and be spoiled by them with yummy Philippine food. Awesome!

Tuesday a nice & relaxing day. Enjoying a lazy morning. My dad & I walked from Sophia's house to the beach, just 10 minutes! Just nice to walk around the area. Later on we went to the St.Mary to take some pictures and then we went to the beach! Yay. The water was pretty cold but it was refreshing. Later on we saw a seal popping up! So cool. Just a really nice day. Went out for sushi lunch and dinner we just had all the yummy left overs at Sophia's place. Very nice.

Wednesday road trip time! On our way to San Diego. First stop in Escondido to visit some Dutch friends of my dad that he hadn't seen in 34 years!! wow. They live in a beautiful community. It was super hot, 35 degrees celsius. Luckily they had airconditioning ;-) They had prepared a super yummy lunch for us and we just had a really good time talking to each other. Some games for Sam so he had fun as well. They took us around the community to show us everything. Very nice. Just a very nice stop!
Then on to San Diego. There we stayed at a nice hotel, the double tree hilton. Close to little Italy. First a bit of relaxing after such a long day in the car and with the heat outside. We went for dinner at a pizzeria close to the hotel. Was a good tip from the hotel. Very yummy! And funny, you have to walk through the store with all Italian food & drinks and in the back is the restaurant. Very good. And of course we asked around for where we could get some good gelato. We found a place! Yum. Nice to have some real gelato for desert :-)
Back at the hotel Sophia, Sam & I went for a dip in the hot tub on the 5th floor outside! Super nice :-)

Thursday we had breakfast at the gelato place from the day before. Yummy croissants. And then we went on our way to the San Diego Zoo!! Woohoo. I've heard about this zoo from my dad since I was little so I always wanted to go. A very hot day again, so not walking too fast ;-) Saw the big panda bears and koala's, yay! We don't have those in NL. Just nice to walk around, I love seeing animals. The zoo itself is not necessarily better than like Blijdorp (for the Dutchies), but it was very nice. We spent all day in there. Also relaxing, buying some souvenirs (koala bear with Koalafornia haha, so corny :-) ) and dinner before the drive home again. So lucky that Sophia took the time this week to drive us around everywhere!! So sweet.

Friday was the day to leave the states.. so I'll leave that for the next story!
