Hi,

So last time we were just enjoying our last evening in the states with Sophia & Sam. Now I'll continue with the rest of our journey.

Friday the 28th of August.
Nice & relaxing morning, making sure everything is packed, ready to go! Sophia brought us to the airport, hard to say goodbye..

Nice & easy flight to Vancouver. We could see the smoke from all the bush fires in California when flying along the coast up north. Arriving in Vancouver around 4PM. A little bit stormy but not too bad. We took the skytrain into downtown and walked from the train station to our hotel in Coal Harbour. This is 'view-wise' my favourite part of the city. If I could live here, this would be the area I would want to live. Looking over the water towards the mountains in North Van and beyond. It was so much fun to show my dad everything! We just walked along the water, looking at the seaplanes taking off and landing on the water. So nice. Decided to go have some pancakes for dinner. First impression for my dad to see the city, walking on Granville street :-) Very nice first evening here!

Saturday a walking day around town. First starting off with brunch at Bellagion at Robson Square where they have some yummy french toast. For me this trip is kind of like a food-memory-trip :-) Going back to most of my favourite places from when I lived here. Robson square I love, nice quiet open space relatively, in the middle of the busy center! Later on we walked to Gastown, the main area for all the tourist shops. Nice to walk around and look at everything. Had to buy a Vancouver sweater for my dad of course and I bought a sweater with the Raven on it, drawn in the aboriginal style. Beautiful! Also walked today towards Yaletown where I used to live. Said hello to Larisse! and got to show my dad the building and everything.
Today a nice dinner at Mahoney & Sons, overlooking the water again. Loving it!

Sunday we went to the Aquarium. A bit grey day. But still nice to walk through Stanley Park. Aquarium was really nice, saw the Beluga show! And just enjoyed walking around seeing all the different animals. Another nice day. Also relaxing and another nice dinner at Mahoney.

Monday was moving day. Moving from the hotel in Coal Harbour to an apartment in Yaletown. As it was raining very heavily we made sure to take a taxi! Not doing too much today. Went to the car rental place to arrange a car to go to Whistler. In the evening we took the seabus to North Vancouver as we met up with Maria & Tess for dinner at my all-time favourite restaurant: Fishworks! So nice to see those ladies again and to enjoy the food. Sharing this with my dad is so nice. Fabulous evening.

Tuesday we picked up the car in the morning and went on our way to Whistler. It was a bit rainy again, but still a beautiful drive. First time driving it myself! Fantastic. Stopped at Shannon Falls near Squamish. Even after seeing it 4 times, it's still so nice to see!
Then continuing on our way to Whistler. Arriving there it was a bit sad to see the rainy clouds were so low you could not see Whistler Mountain or Blackcomb. Also it was pretty cold, just about 6 degrees... brrr. So we had to go buy some warm stuff! I had layers but I didn't anticipate to these temperatures in late summer. We were just a bit unlucky when it comes to the weather. We had poutine for lunch! yum. (for people that don't know: french fries with cheese & gravy). As it was so cold & rainy we only walked around a bit and left quite early. Enjoying the drive back. Of course we still hit the daily traffic jam crossing Lions Gate bridge back into town... oh well, guess I can cross that off my list now as well ;-)

To top this day off we went for dinner at Jako for some yummy sushi and of course we had to get some icecream from Yaletown Gelato! The best in town imho.

Wednesday a quiet day. Just a bit of walking into town, shopping. I went to the cinema on my own while my dad went relaxing. Good to relax after all the busy days we've had so far! We did have something fun to do: dinner with Larisse at Bistro Sakana in Yaletown! Yay. So much fun to see her and have dinner at one of my other favourites.

The last day in Van + the trip to the Rockies I will leave for next time.
